Vancouver with kids
A Day Trip to Whistler from Vancouver with Kids: Stops, Gondolas and Tips
Whistler is about two hours from Vancouver along the Sea-to-Sky Highway, one of the most beautiful drives in Canada. With kids, the stops on the way are half the fun: a real mine train, a giant waterfall and a gondola above the ocean.
It's a long day, so pick two or three stops rather than all of them. Check each official website for hours, and road conditions before you drive (winter tires are required on this highway from October to March).

Evening
Drive home at sunset
Leave Whistler by early evening: the drive back is long for tired kids, and Friday and Sunday traffic is heavy in summer.
Good to know
- Pick your stops: with young kids, Britannia or the Sea to Sky Gondola plus the village is plenty.
- No car? Buses and day tours run from Vancouver to Whistler, many stopping at Shannon Falls and the gondola.
- Seasons: summer has the gondolas, lakes and trails; winter is for skiing and snow, with winter tires required on the highway.
- Car sickness: the highway is curvy. Seat motion-sick kids by a window and stop often.
Make it a game
A Play Your Trip book turns your road trip into an adventure: every stop a quest with a coin to collect, every place one tap from the map. Vancouver books are coming soon; see how it works.
